Ques: Why detergents are better cleansing agents than soaps? Explain.

Ans: It is because detergents form lot of lather even in the hard water. Hard water contains ions of Calcium(Ca) and Magnesium (Mg) which react with soap to form insoluble salts of calcium and magnesium called scum and soap gets wasted. Detergents do not form insoluble compounds with Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium(Mg) ions, therefore, these are more effective than soaps.
